ICSA Certification
'Products and services certified by the ICSA Labs Anti-Virus Product Certification program are able to prevent the end user from becoming infected by in-the-wild and other computer viruses. The Anti-Virus Certification Criteria is geared for products and services that detect computer viruses prior to causing an infection. The requirements comprising the criteria are intended to ensure the proper detection of self-replicating computer viruses before doing any damage to the host system.'
VB100%
For many years, Virus Bulletin has carried out independent comparative testing of anti-virus products. Indeed, Virus Bulletin's tests are widely recognized within the industry. The tests tend to focus on virus detection rates and scanning speed, as well as looking at how each product fares when scanning a set files that are known to be clean.
W.C.L Level 1 Certified
West Coast Labs has a virus library with many thousands of different viruses and variants, collected through a bespoke harvesting process. For a product to be certified to Anti-Virus Checkmark, Level One the product must be able to detect all those viruses which are "In the Wild". This gives a clear and independent indication to end users of those anti-virus products that they can be relied on to perforn to Level One functionality.
W.C.L Level 2 Certified
For a product to be certified Anti-Virus Checkmark, Level Two the product must comply with Anti-Virus Checkmark, Level One and, in addition, disinfect all viruses on the "in the wild" list which are capable of disinfection.

Our recommendations: These tests are usually simple, which means that almost anything can pass them. However, these tests also cost money, so don't automatically assume that a non-certified product failed the test. Maybe they just were trying to keep costs down.
